The 1,713 acre Arboretum is a renowned historic research site for ecological restoration and including the oldest and most diverse restored ecological community collection in the world, including wetlands, various forest types, savannas and tallgrass prairies. The Arboretum borders the Lake Wingra and is open for group tours and the general public. It offers lectures and educational programs to families, groups and individuals of all ages. The Arboretum is an extension of the University of Wisconsin-Madison system.

Tours for Gardeners
Free, informative tours of Longenecker Horticultural Gardens and the Native Plant Gardens surrounding the Visitor Center are led by gardening experts and are offered April through August, on Wednesdays from7 p.m. until dark and Saturday afternoon from 1-3 p. m. in the fall.

Are there classes available to take at the Arboretum?
Classes are available at the Arboretum for a fee. The classed provide a more in depth look at the interaction of humans with the environment and offer families the opportunity to learn together. Many of the classes are designed to teach attendees ways to restore and engage on their own properties.
What sort of events can be held at the Arboretum?
The classrooms and auditorium at the Arboretum are available for certain groups on a limited basis. The groups must meet at least one of these guidelines; similar mission as the Arboretum, be invited by an Arboretum staff member, affiliated with the University of Wisconsin System, or include a presentation by an Arboretum staff member.
